Moxibustion (뜸) — Korean Heat Therapy in Massey

Warmth drawn from burning mugwort, used to strengthen cold or depleted organs.

Dried mugwort (쑥) is burned near the skin to warm depleted organs and move stagnation. Particularly effective for cold-type conditions — fatigue, poor digestion, and menstrual pain rooted in a chilled constitution.

Moxibustion — 뜸 in Korean — uses the gentle burning of dried mugwort held close to specific acupuncture points, delivering deep warmth into the body. It is one of the most ancient practices in East Asian medicine and remains in daily use because it works: warming the channels, relieving pain, and reviving depleted energy in a way that needles alone cannot fully replicate. It is especially well-suited to conditions driven by cold or deficiency: persistent fatigue, cold hands and feet, menstrual pain that worsens with cold, weak digestion, frequent illness, and deep-seated joint stiffness. It is also commonly used alongside acupuncture to deepen and extend the therapeutic effect — many patients find it the highlight of their session. At Little Clinic we use indirect moxibustion, where the herb never directly touches the skin. The warmth builds slowly and steadily. Most first-time patients are surprised by how relaxed — and how warm, from the inside — they feel afterwards.

What it helps with

Decoction bowl with rising steam

Internal & systemic

Constitutional work — usually paired with a course of herbs and lifestyle guidance across 2–4 weeks.

  • Hypertension & diabetes support

We work alongside your GP and medications, not in place of them. Korean herbal formulas help stabilise readings, ease side-effects, and address the underlying pattern — we never advise stopping prescribed medicines.

  • Menopause

Hot flushes, night sweats, mood shifts, and sleep disruption all respond well to constitutional formulas and acupuncture. Most patients feel a shift within 2–3 weeks of starting herbs.

  • Digestive disorders

Reflux, bloating, IBS-type presentations, and chronic indigestion. Traditional Korean medicine treats digestion as the root of energy — correcting it often resolves fatigue and sleep issues in parallel.

  • Chronic fatigue

Post-viral, burnout-related, or unexplained exhaustion. We look at digestion, sleep, and emotional load together and build up strength gently — too fast a tonic can worsen things.

  • Sleep disturbance

Difficulty falling asleep, early waking, or waking through the night all point to different patterns. Treatment is pattern-specific and often shows first results within a week.

  • Cancer recovery support

We support patients through and after oncology treatment — easing chemotherapy-induced nausea, fatigue, and neuropathy with gentle acupuncture and constitutional herbs. We never replace your oncologist's plan; we coordinate with them.

  • Bladder infection (UTI)

Recurring UTIs and chronic cystitis. Acupuncture and clearing herbs help reduce frequency and ease the burning urgency between flares. Acute infections still need GP review and antibiotics where indicated.

  • Autoimmune conditions

Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's, psoriasis. We treat the inflammatory pattern beneath the diagnosis, ease pain and fatigue, and work alongside your specialist's medication plan.

Women's & men's health

Plans typically combine custom herbal formulas with weekly acupuncture across 2–3 cycles.

  • Menstrual disorders

Painful, irregular, heavy, or absent cycles — each a different pattern in Korean medicine. Most respond within 2–3 cycles of consistent herbs paired with acupuncture around the window of ovulation and menses.

  • Fertility support

Preconception preparation, cycle regulation, or IVF-adjunct support. We work from 3–6 months out where possible — earlier starts give the body time to settle before conception.

  • Prostate health

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, chronic prostatitis, and urinary frequency. Herbs and acupuncture reduce inflammation and ease flow — typically a 4–8 week course alongside your urologist's guidance.

  • Hormonal imbalance

Thyroid dysregulation, adrenal fatigue patterns, post-pill imbalance. Classical formulas gently re-regulate endocrine rhythm; we coordinate with your specialist where medications are in play.

  • Endometriosis

Pelvic pain, painful intercourse, and heavy or irregular cycles. We treat the blood-stasis pattern with moving herbs and acupuncture timed to the cycle. Most patients report meaningful pain reduction within 2–3 cycles.

  • Uterine fibroids

Benign uterine growths often presenting with heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, or fatigue. Korean medicine works on the underlying stagnation pattern; we coordinate with your gynaecologist when surgery or hormonal treatment is being weighed.

  • Breast health support

We support patients through breast cancer treatment and recovery — easing chemotherapy fatigue, lymphoedema, hormone-therapy side-effects, and helping the body settle after surgery. Always alongside your oncologist's plan.

  • Erectile dysfunction & low libido

Approached as a kidney-yang or stagnation pattern depending on presentation. Acupuncture and constitutional herbs improve circulation, energy, and underlying anxiety. We always rule out cardiovascular causes with your GP first.
